Meet Martha Varo and Enrique Valdivia! Representing heart, rhythm, and a love for their community. Martha and Enrique are excited to be a part of this year’s Dancing with the Coastal Stars! This dynamic duo has known each other for 17 years after meeting through mutual friends at a local fast-food restaurant. Lincoln County has been home to Enrique for 18 years and to Martha for over 30 years. Together they raise two vibrant daughters; Luna (15) and Sol (13), they share their home with two energetic dogs and a curious cat.
Martha works as a home visitor with Lincoln County’s Parents as Teachers program and Enrique works at Szabo’s Restaurant. Enrique is always active in the community alongside Martha, especially when it comes to celebrating their Mexican heritage. They love dancing Ballet Folklorico, participating in culture parades across Oregon, attending Crossfit and turning their front yard into a festive wonderland for every holiday.
Dance is already an important part of their lives, but this time they are stepping out of their comfort zone to learn a new style of dance, the East Coast Swing! They are being coached by long time dance instructor Art Moore. The cause is close to their hearts, Martha’s work has shown firsthand how access to safe, stable housing can transform lives. She’s seen children’s health improve and families begin to thrive thanks to Samaritan House.
“We’re dancing because we believe in Samaritan house’s mission. It’s not just about housing, it’s about providing families with the tools to build brighter futures through financial literacy, childcare support and stability” says Martha.
To raise funds, Martha and Enrique are rallying their community, reaching out to local businesses, friends and neighbors. They also have a GoFundMe that you can donate directly to, here is the website to do so https://gofund.me/8ab40fbb6
Every dollar goes directly to support families right here in Lincoln County.
